Chapter 1097: Returning Home
Chapter 1097: Returning Home
"Soon, you’ll be able to meet your brother! Oh, perhaps we should say sister now. I really want to see the scene when you two meet, but unfortunately, I have other matters to attend to and can’t be there in person. However, I’ll have a colleague in the Secret Prison capture it on video for me. Ah! That scene will surely be touching, even if it’s not touching, it will definitely be interesting, right?"Listening to Pei Yan’s sarcastic rambling, Radu, with half of his ear cut off, lifted his head and smiled slightly at the other, saying, "You’re also going to see your family, aren’t you? With your sister?"
"Yes! Precisely!" Pei Yan’s expression didn’t show any fluctuations, still smiling as he looked at the other and asked, "Where did you find out from? Do you want to say something?"
"I heard your conversation with the Immortal Palace Steward, nothing more! I wish you a wonderful reunion!" Radu raised his shackled hand and gave a gentlemanly salute to Pei Yan, offering a profound blessing.
"Thank you!"
Escorting Radu through the Space Tunnel to hand him to the investigator’s receiver and ensuring his safe arrival at the Secret Prison, Pei Jin, confused by Pei Yan’s continually excited demeanor beside him during their return through the Teleportation Array, asked, "Why did you reply to him? This guy doesn’t have good intentions."
"I know." Pei Yan said, taking out a mirror and straightening his appearance while looking into it, "Anyway, he’s just a dead man walking. Allowing him a moment to secretly fantasize about revenge to soothe his bruised nerves isn’t bad. What he doesn’t know is the more he talks now, the worse it will be for him and his family."
Pei Yan gently pressed the illusory flesh in his left eye socket, sneering coldly, "But the outcome between us was already settled the moment we became enemies. The Vlad Clan’s way of doing things means only one of us can continue living in this world. Either we don’t start a war, or if we do, I can’t sleep unless the Vlad Clan is eradicated."
Afterward, he grinned at his sister and reassured, "Don’t worry! I won’t let them harm me or anyone in our family. Look! How’s my disguise now? Mom and Dad won’t notice anything, right?"
"Alas!" Pei Jin sighed. The current Pei Yan was no longer her little brother who would listen to her advice. In resignation, Pei Jin gave him a once-over and patted his head, saying, "Cover up your white hair a bit more; Mom would feel distress seeing it."
"Oh! Really?" Upon hearing this, Pei Yan swiftly pulled out his mirror to check and laughed, "Indeed! After being tormented in Hell Plane’s special training, my hair turned completely white. But during the training for a recent competition, the abundant source energy nourished it back to black, though some white strands remain! The haircut was too short; I wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t mentioned!" As he spoke, Pei Yan quickly used a disguise seal to dye his black and white hair entirely black before satisfactorily putting away his mirror.
By this time, the Teleportation Array had transported them to the competition training space. Thanking the staff who came to greet them, the two sat on a tour bus heading towards the holiday villa prepared by the department.
"Have you figured out how to tell Mom and Dad?" Pei Yan suddenly asked, looking at the picturesque scenery outside the car window.
"I’ll handle telling Mom. She’s less capable of accepting things. You talk to Dad and give him the detailed account." Pei Jin replied while organizing the supplements collected from the Daoist Realm in her bag for the family.
"Phew! That’s good!" Pei Yan breathed a sigh of relief. He truly dreaded confronting his mom, afraid that the sight of his scars might cause her to faint with hypertension.
Once the tour bus stopped, Pei Yan saw his notified parents awaiting them. It had been more than a year since he last saw them. Leaping off the bus, Pei Yan couldn’t help feeling a bit emotional. Seeing their son’s appearance, his mom cooperated with the emotional atmosphere, but his dad furrowed his brow, clearing his throat, "Pei Yan! Is the management in your team this lax? It’s been less than a month separated, and you’re back again? Did you sneak away? I’m telling you, once you’re in the team, you’ll need to handle hardships! That’s not like being coddled at home where you avoid following discipline!"
Pei Yan didn’t find his dad’s earnest advice annoying at all. Given the time difference between the two realms, it was indeed less than a month since Pei Yan left home and returned. This seemed incredible to the elder. Instinctively, the father thought of him as a deserter fleeing his duties, scolding him with a stern face for his own son’s sake.
"Enough! Enough! The son and daughter have finally come back. Just listen to you lecturing! Didn’t the neighborhood director say it? Our son achieved a major merit! The entire team must rotate home for vacation, which is why we’re brought to this holiday center."
"You listen to her! If your son truly made a mistake, would they have the nerve to point it out? This holiday center, what even is it? I’ve never heard of it before! This place is remote! I get it! It’s where folks with the right level who’ve erred are detained!"
Seeing his parents bickering over his matter, Pei Yan quickly stepped in to console, "Dad, I really didn’t make any mistakes! I’m not a fugitive! Our team completed a very crucial task, and this vacation is a reward from the department."
"Really?" Old Pei asked, half-convinced.
"Really! Let’s head inside first! The lake breeze here is strong! Once inside, we’ll discuss in detail."
With Pei Yan and Pei Jin coaxing and half-tricking, the family finally entered the doors of the holiday village, which resembled a cluster of villas. Pei Yan’s family settled in one of these houses. Observing the guards and service staff patrolling within the complex, Pei Yan could clearly feel the source energy fluctuations within them. It seemed the department went to great lengths to ensure the safety of their team’s families.
Along the way, Pei Yan saw several teammates’ parents, who came up to inquire about their children’s situation. The parents of the Ye Family brothers were particularly worried about Ye Jiumu. Pei Yan one by one answered them, explaining that after the rotation break, everyone would come here. He separately assured Ye Jiumu’s parents that Jiumu was on a confidential mission, and for his safety, the department couldn’t disclose his whereabouts, so he couldn’t contact the outside. But as far as he knew, Ye Jiumu was safe. After some comforting words, his family finally returned to their villa.
"Tuantuan, this isn’t home, but the chef here makes really delicious food, and there’s a variety!" Mom Li Yuhua, upon entering, pointed at a female attendant at the door and said, "This is Xiaozhou, the attendant for our room. If you want to eat anything, just tell her. The restaurant will deliver it all together; it’s very convenient!"
"Okay! Mom! I know! I’m not hungry right now!"
