Reborn in the Apocalypse: A Commoner's Survival Log

Chapter 206 Settling in

Chapter 206 Settling in

After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Li Cheng led Bai Jishan and his group into the Shanghai base.

The Shanghai base is in such a state now that they don't bother with inspections anymore, so the team just drove right in.

Zhou Yang and his group followed the procession, slowly driving in.

I thought the outside was bad enough, but when I drove in, I found that the inside was even worse than a battlefield.

Broken walls and ruins, the land was a wasteland, littered with the corpses of zombies, sea monsters and humans.

The survivors searched through mountains of corpses and seas of blood for the remains of their loved ones, each one a soulless walking corpse.

Their faces, covered in dust and blood, were streaked with tears that dried on their skin after they had cried themselves to sleep, making them look like clowns.

That scene would have been hilarious before the apocalypse, but in this context, it only evokes feelings of profound sorrow and desolation.

The greatest sorrow is the death of the heart; this is probably the essence of it.

The team passed by the survivors, and amidst their numb gazes, gradually drove towards the government building, which was the only relatively intact building among all the buildings in the Shanghai base.

Upon arriving at their destination, Zhou Xian instructed the two vice-captains of the special ability teams to wait with the others, while he, along with Song Lian and members of the Hidden Dragon Squad, accompanied Li Cheng to meet the base director of the Shanghai base.

Normally, this kind of thing wouldn't be Zhou Yang and his group's business, but since the strongest fighters among those who came this time were all from the Hidden Dragon Squad, Zhou Xian naturally had to drag them along to support the group.

Because Chi Feng and Yu Hui came with Zhou Yang and the others, Zhou Xian mistakenly thought they were also members of the Hidden Dragon Squad, so they were invited along as well.

If it were someone else, they might immediately deny it or make excuses.

But Chi Feng was shameless, so he agreed and followed Yu Hui and Zhou Yang's footsteps.

Zhou Yang and the others didn't stop them, tacitly acknowledging that the two were in cahoots with the Hidden Dragon Squad.

Since Chi Feng is currently the highest-level member of the entire team, it would be helpful for him to participate and facilitate subsequent battle assignments.

Zhou Yang didn't care. He had brought Chi Feng over to work, so he certainly wouldn't let him be idle.

The group of ten followed Li Cheng up to the third floor and finally stopped outside a small room at the very end.

Li Cheng stopped and knocked on the door.

"report!"

A moment later, a deep voice came from inside: "Come in."

Li Cheng then pushed open the door and went inside.

Zhou Yang and the others followed closely behind.

Upon entering, one sees a middle-aged man sitting behind a large desk, his head bowed, writing something furiously. But what catches the eye most is his sparse hair, almost reaching the point of being bald.

Hearing someone enter, the man put down his pen and looked up, only to find that apart from Li Cheng at the head of the line, he didn't recognize any of the others.

"Li Cheng? Is something the matter? Who are they...?"

"Reporting to the commander, these are all members of the rescue team from Baijishan Base. Captain Zhou Xian is the main person in charge of this rescue operation."

"The rescue team from Baijishan Base?" The middle-aged man muttered to himself, feeling a bit unfamiliar with the name Baijishan Base.

However, upon hearing that they had come to rescue us, the middle-aged man immediately perked up and extended his hand: "Hello, I am Fu Guoliang, the current base commander of the Shanghai base! Thank you very much for coming to rescue us!"

Zhou Xian immediately stepped forward, grasped the other's hand, and said, "Base Commander, you're too kind. Our Baijishan Base is also responding to the call of the Capital Base. In the apocalypse, we must help each other so that more people can continue to survive!"

"You're right! In this apocalypse, we really need to help each other to survive!"

Fu Guoliang sighed, then asked:

"By the way, I don't know how many of you came? I'll have someone arrange a place for you to rest. It's just that our base is a bit chaotic right now, so the accommodations might not be very good. I hope you'll understand."

"We have brought over two thousand people this time, but rest assured, they are all elites from our base, and we are definitely not just going through the motions. As for where to rest, don't worry about that for now. Is there anything we can help with at the base?"

"It would be great if you could help!" Fu Guoliang didn't stand on ceremony with Zhou Xian, mainly because their base was indeed short-handed, and cleaning up the mess was already a struggle.

After thinking for a moment, Fu Guoliang still asked one more question: "Um, I wonder what the approximate level of the superpowered individuals among the people who came this time?"

"Oh, this Mr. Shen Zechuan is the highest-level ability user in this rescue team, a peak level 5 lightning-type ability user. And this Yan Fei is a late-stage level 5 metal-type ability user. Captain Song Lian and I are currently both early-stage level 5, respectively..."

Zhou Xian didn't hold back and introduced the abilities and levels of each of them one by one. However, when he introduced Chi Feng and Yu Hui, he hesitated because he wasn't familiar with them.

"Um, as for these two..."

"Chi Feng, late-stage level 5 plant-type ability." Chi Feng wasn't angry at all. He directly introduced himself and then pointed to Yu Hui, saying, "Yu Hui, late-stage level 4 earth-type ability."

Upon hearing Chi Feng say that he was also at the peak of level 5, Zhou Xian and Song Lian were stunned for a moment. They exchanged a glance in surprise and remained silent.

The members of the Hidden Dragon Squad smirked, but didn't expose Chi Feng. They just silently complained about Chi Feng's pretense of weakness.

Zhou Yang found it rather strange.

It seems like the people at this base have no recollection of Chi Feng and his companion. Are they really that insignificant here?

However, it was not the right time to ask Chi Feng, so he had to put it aside for the time being.

After exchanging pleasantries with Fu Guoliang for a while, Zhou Xian took his leave, citing the need to settle the rescue team.

Because Fu Guoliang was busy with many other things, he handed over the task of entertaining them to Li Cheng.

Without further ado, Li Cheng immediately led the Baijishan rescue team to settle in several relatively intact villas.

"Although these villas were flooded before, they are considered relatively good for this base. Please bear with us and stay here for the time being."

"It's alright, we're not picky. Thank you." Zhou Xian nodded his thanks, then nodded to Song Lian.

The latter understood immediately and went to arrange accommodation.

Because there were limited rooms and no beds, everyone slept on the floor. Not only were the rooms used, but even the living room was utilized.

The Hidden Dragon Squad was assigned directly to the first floor, with eight people divided into two rooms.

The men didn't mind; they could just sleep on the floor.

However, Xu Qingtang, being a girl, still needed to be taken care of, so Zhou Yang brought out a separate single tent with good privacy for her.

This way, even if she has to share a room with them, her privacy can still be well protected.

After settling into their accommodations, the group quickly went downstairs to meet again.
