Chapter 176: Escape from Dragon's Mouth
Chapter 176: Escape from Dragon's Mouth
The moment the black dragon rose from the lava, the entire cave seemed to be swallowed by darkness and flames.
Then it opened its mouth, and a scorching dragon breath blew in my face! The air was filled with suffocating sulfur. A huge black shadow hovered overhead, and its dragon wings flapped, stirring up a violent wind. The ground was shaking, the rocks were cracking, and the surging lava was erupting in all directions.
"Run!" Carl yelled almost instinctively. He quickly jumped to the side. The scorching dragon breath brushed past him, scalding his arm. Everyone reacted quickly and began to flee in all directions, trying to avoid the attack. Amira dodged while muttering to herself, and then two translucent shields appeared out of thin air, covering Carl and herself respectively.
Eleanor and Arya jumped in the opposite direction from them, and the other witch hunters began to disperse, but two of them were unable to dodge and were hit by the surging column of fire. They turned into ashes in just a moment and did not even have time to scream.
The black dragon roared deafeningly, and the red light in its eyes was like a demon from the abyss, carrying a rage that wanted to destroy everything. It spread its wings and began to flap towards everyone. The heat instantly turned into a strong wind, sweeping towards everyone. Except for Alia, almost everyone was blown down. Carl felt an unprecedented and terrifying thrust, pushing his body backwards. In the end, his feet left the ground, and after flapping a few times in the air, he fell back to the ground.
"Karl~" Alia yelled.
"I'm fine." Karl struggled to get up from the ground and waved to her.
"Damn it!" Anger appeared on the girl's face. She tightly gripped the sword in her hand, and flames immediately rushed up from the sword, burning and crackling.
And Amira then cried out:
"It's useless, it's not afraid of fire!"
Then they saw the black dragon open its huge mouth again.
"It's coming again, don't stop!" Carl shouted.
Then a second red flame was violently blasted out, rushing towards the crowd, burning the rocks, turning everything into ashes wherever it went, and continuously spreading in all directions.
"Run towards the cave!" Carl ran along the way he came.
Then everyone started to gather towards the entrance of the cave from different roads. Alia pulled Eleanor, Amira followed Carl, and the other witch hunters also ran as fast as they could, fearing that they would be swallowed by the hot dragon's breath if they stopped for the slightest.
The roar echoed in everyone's ears, accompanied by the sound of heavy footsteps.
Carl was panting heavily, his forehead covered with cold sweat. He dragged the female mage along the narrow rocky road, with lava rolling under his feet, an unknown exit in front of him, and the breath of death blowing in from behind.
As they were about to reach the cave entrance, the black dragon suddenly leaped into the air and stretched out its claws to strike at them. Carl looked at the huge black shadow falling from the sky in horror. Amira tried to chant a spell, but it was too late. In a hurry, Carl pushed the female sorceress forward and pushed her into the cave. He also leaned back with inertia. The dragon's claws passed in front of him and hit the rocky road. With a roar, countless rocks were smashed into pieces and then sank into the lava. When Carl stood up, the road ahead had been cut off.
He was left here. He looked up at the cave. Arya, Eleanor, and the rest of the witch hunters had all arrived safely, but he was the only one whose path was cut off by the black dragon. It seemed that he was doomed. If he had known earlier, he would not have come. No, if he had not come, someone else might have gotten into trouble. He should not have agreed to Amira.
For some reason, he felt particularly calm when facing death. It was not as scary as he had imagined. Perhaps it was because the creature that was about to kill him was magical. He heard Alia's heart-wrenching cry towards him. All he could do at this moment was to smile and shout to everyone:
"Get out of here, quickly!"
The figure of the black dragon pounced from behind, its huge black wings covering the sky, flames condensed in its throat, and its scarlet eyes stared at Carl, and at this moment their eyes met!
At the moment when he came into contact with the black dragon's eyes, everything around him suddenly changed. The dragon's nest disappeared, and Carl actually returned to Rickburg! However, Rickburg at this time was completely different from what he remembered. The city walls collapsed, the main castle was reduced to ruins, and flames were burning all around. There were screams and battles everywhere. The blood dyed the earth red, and the sky was filled with endless black smoke, as if the entire civilization was heading towards doomsday.
What was going on? What was happening? Who was attacking Rickburg? He looked around in horror, then froze.
There were no external enemies. He saw the guards of Rickburg killing each other, and the civilians also joined the battle. Then he saw Alia, the girl's eyes were red, holding up a flaming sword and slashing at Amira, while Amira used magic to raise a shield to barely resist. Eleanor was fighting with Elsa, and Selena was fighting with Jim!
"What's going on? Stop, stop now!" he shouted, trying to stop them, but no one paid any attention to him, as if he didn't exist.
Suddenly he saw a stranger, a girl wearing black armor, with black hair, red eyes, and holding a huge sword. She seemed to notice Carl, or rather, she was the only person on the field who could see Carl. The girl's face was full of confusion. She stared at Carl for a long time, then raised the huge sword in her hand and pointed it behind Carl.
Carl looked back in the direction of the sword, and then he saw that all the dead people stood up again, turning into undead. Each one was hideous and terrifying, carrying the breath of death, and pounced towards those who were killing each other!
Carl felt his heart beating violently, as if the whole world was collapsing before his eyes. His consciousness began to blur, and the reality in front of him was intertwined with the illusion of the end of the world. He could not tell which was reality and which was illusion. The black dragon's gaze seemed to tear his soul apart, and the huge sense of oppression made him unable to move.
Just when he thought he was about to fall into endless darkness, a strong hand suddenly grabbed his arm. Carl's consciousness suddenly shook as he felt the familiar warmth and heard Alia's anxious cry: "Carl! Follow me!"
Alia came to his side without him knowing. She pulled him over and picked him up. Then she jumped towards the cave and jumped directly over.
After they landed, the remaining people immediately caught the two and they retreated into the tunnel. Amira began to chant a spell and several fireballs flew out of her hands, quickly focusing on the cave entrance. With the sound of explosions, the rocks collapsed and instantly blocked the way to the dragon's nest.
Then everyone heard the roar of the dragon again. No one dared to stay. They ran again. There was a loud noise behind them again. A flame quickly shattered the rocks blocking the road and poured into the tunnel. At this moment, Eleanor suddenly opened the holy book. A ray of light surged from her hand and turned into a golden shield floating in the air, blocking the incoming flames for a while. Everyone took the opportunity to continue to flee upwards until they saw a ray of light. They ran towards the light and finally reached the ground after passing through a short rock passage.
At the moment of rushing out, the cold wind blew towards them, blowing away the sweat on their bodies. The cold touch made everyone feel extremely sober. Karl stopped, panting, and felt his heartbeat gradually stabilize.
"We survived..." Eleanor said softly, with a hint of incredible joy in her voice.
"Yes, we survived. Thanks to you!" Carl nodded, his eyes met Alia's, his eyes full of gratitude.
"I told you not to come! What if something really happens?" Alia scolded angrily.
"I don't understand~" Amira shook her head in confusion.
"What?" Carl asked, gasping for breath.
"Why did it suddenly stop attacking?" Amira asked puzzled.
"The attack stopped? When did it happen?" Confusion appeared on Carl's face.
"When it blocked you, we all thought you were dead, and then it stopped, and then... you two just kept staring blankly, and that gave Alia a chance to save you."
"You mean we're both in a daze?" Carl asked again.
“Yes,” Amira affirms.
Carl fell into deep thought. What did this mean? He didn't know, but that picture, the picture of the destruction of Rickburg, was it telling him something? If that was the future, then he had to stop it!
