Chapter 219 Final Reconciliation
Chapter 219 Final Reconciliation
When Aaron arrived at Carl's camp, campfires were burning all around, and soldiers stood in neat rows, holding weapons, and watching the prime minister who had just been defeated. He looked up and saw a main tent in the middle of the camp, with heavy curtains and war flags hanging at the door. A solemn and oppressive atmosphere came over him. He frowned slightly, but did not show it, and silently followed the soldiers who greeted him into the tent.
Inside the tent, Carl was sitting at the tactical table, looking down at the documents, and didn't seem to be particularly concerned about Aaron's arrival. The table was filled with pens, ink and combat records, and the dense handwriting showed that the writer was determined. When Aaron walked into the tent, Carl finally looked up and his eyes fell directly on Aaron's face. His eyes were calm and calm. The two looked at each other for a while, and then Aaron spoke first.
"Long time no see, Carl." He said softly, his tone calm.
“Indeed, it’s been a long time.” Karl replied indifferently, he put down the documents in his hand, and then motioned him to sit down.
The two sat opposite each other, and the air was filled with an invisible tension.
After a moment of silence, Aaron spoke first:
"I still remember how you looked when you first became the Baron of Rickburg. Who would have thought that in just over a year, you would change so quickly."
"So, you are here to reminisce about the past?" Carl's face was as calm as ever, and he still looked at the other person expressionlessly.
Aaron paused, then sighed helplessly:
"I was just wondering why we had to get to this point."
Aaron stared at Karl, his eyes revealing a complex emotion, like reproach and helplessness. He spoke again, with a hint of sarcasm in his tone:
"It is true that I invaded the North, but how could I dare to do so without the approval of His Majesty? Don't you understand? A serf became a baron, and now he wants to get his hands on the position of Duke of the North in just over a year. So what's next? What else do you want after you take this position? Power is something that will not let people get it easily."
Karl looked back coldly, his brows slightly frowned: “So you are implying that I have ulterior motives?”
"Even if you didn't, His Majesty would think in this direction. He is afraid of you." Aaron's voice gradually became lower and his tone was neither hurried nor slow, but every word hit the point. "Ever since you took the throne of the baron, the North has been on the brink of turmoil. If it were just that, it would be fine. You even have close contacts with the tribes. How can you make His Majesty feel at ease? He has watched you climb step by step from an insignificant outsider to your current position, and you even have connections with those barbaric tribes in the north. Carl, do you know what this means?"
Karl’s expression changed slightly, and he said coldly: “I have my own reasons.”
Aaron snorted and shook his head contemptuously: "Reason? Are you saying it's because of the orcs?"
Karl's eyes turned cold, and his tone became heavier:
"So, you knew it all along. You knew the orcs existed, and you even had connections with them. You had your wizard bring madness to them so that they could slaughter humans!"
Aaron did not shy away from it, but frankly admitted:
"Yes! I did it. If it weren't for your intervention, we could have wiped out the tribe in one fell swoop and eliminated the threat from the north!"
Karl's hand trembled slightly, and anger flickered in his eyes:
"What nonsense are you talking about? It has always been those tribes that have protected us from the orc invasion. If they are gone..."
Before Karl could finish, Aaron said:
"If they are gone, the orcs will collapse due to the disease. Large-scale infection will turn them into monsters that lose the ability to think, their social structure will be destroyed, and finally they will split into pieces. This is a win-win situation! But because of your interference, all this has failed!"
Hearing this, Karl clenched his hands slightly and said angrily in a low voice: “You are playing with fire, Aaron! Madness is out of control!”
Aaron's eyes revealed a hint of confidence, and he showed a hint of disdain for Karl's words, and then retorted:
"You have no right to criticize me, Carl. Aren't you also using vampires? Isn't this playing with fire?"
Karl's expression condensed, and he said coldly:
"You left me no choice."
Aaron shrugged and sighed indifferently:
"Forget it. There is no point in talking about this now. Now that Casabelos is dead, why don't we skip the past and talk about the current situation?"
Karl raised his eyebrows slightly and showed a cold smile:
"Tell me, what do you want to talk about?"
Aaron straightened his sleeves, considered his words, and added a hint of seriousness to his tone:
"I want to say that now that things have come to this, since things are irreversible, why don't we put aside the past grudges and make peace again."
"Reconcile?" Carl raised his eyebrows slightly, obviously surprised by Aaron's proposal.
Aaron nodded slowly, with a hint of calm thought in his eyes:
"As you said, the tribe has indeed blocked the orcs to a certain extent. I once wanted to use madness to destroy the tribe and the orcs at the same time, killing two birds with one stone, but now it seems that it is no longer possible. In this case, we only have one choice now, and that is to continue to maintain friendly relations with the tribe. And this is why the position of Duke of the North now belongs to you."
Karl smiled faintly, with a hint of sarcasm in his tone:
"So now, you come to support me again?"
Aaron smiled bitterly, with a hint of frankness:
"I admit that I do have some selfish motives regarding the affairs of the North, but no matter what, my first priority is always for the stability of the kingdom. Moreover, you need me. His Majesty is now full of doubts and vigilance towards you, and only I can ease the relationship between you and His Majesty."
Karl was silent for a moment, as if he was weighing Aaron's sincerity, and finally sighed helplessly:
"Well, at least you're right about that."
Aaron saw this and a gentle smile appeared in his eyes, and his tone was sincere:
"So, can we get back together?"
Karl did not answer directly, but nodded slightly and asked:
"How is Myrna now?"
"She is still in the convent, and lives very well, just like before. I heard that not only does she not work, but even she needs several people to help her get up. The eldest lady can't change her temper." The last sentence sounded like a complaint.
"Well, it fits her personality." Carl sighed.
"If possible, I hope she can get married soon, preferably a duke." Aaron said suddenly.
"Well, that's not easy. After all, there are only a few people who hold the title of Duke." Carl pretended to be confused.
Aaron was not surprised by the other party's words. He just smiled bitterly.
"Forget it, let's talk about this later. There is one more thing - I hope you can let Siloed live and keep his title."
"Only if he is willing to surrender," Carl replied.
"Don't worry, I will go and convince him myself." Aaron stood up and looked at Carl firmly: "This time, let us work together to rebuild order in the North and restore stability in the kingdom."
There was a hint of determination in his words, as if he had let go of his hostility.
Karl stared at Aaron's back. Although his expression was still stern, there was a hint of complex emotions in his eyes.
