Chapter 461 - 434: Screaming Island’s Action
Chapter 461 - 434: Screaming Island’s Action
Wubei Port.
With the continuous investment of manpower, the port was now beginning to take shape.
According to the supervisor, Amon, it would be mostly complete and ready for early use with just another year or so of work.
The simple pier had been extended, and the *Dawn*, a ship from the Crescent Continent, was docked there. It had now become Simon’s office.
By now, the Caster had adapted to life at the port. Apart from repairing ships and overseeing the construction of new vessels, he spent his days either in Cultivation or eating roasted meat and drinking Mountain Forest Town’s unique distilled liquor with Rig and the others stationed there.
Many people couldn’t handle its sharp, spicy taste, but he found it quite enjoyable. A swig, especially while forging, would fill his entire body with vigor.
One afternoon, Rig boarded the *Dawn* with roasted meat and fine wine.
He knew the dark-skinned, middle-aged man on the ship was an honored guest of the Wubei Territory and a powerful expert.
Whether he was simply entertaining an honored guest or acting on a selfish desire to get close to an expert in hopes of receiving some guidance, Rig’s actions were perfectly reasonable.
"Rig! You’re here!"
Simon rubbed his palms together, setting down a part he had just finished polishing. "Did you bring the liquor?"
Rig held up the white porcelain bottle in his hand. "Haha, I might forget anything else, but never this!"
Simon hurried over to take it. "This is too little! You should get me a whole vat!"
"I asked the brewer. The Lord only just developed this liquor. It’ll probably be a while before it’s mass-produced."
The two set up a small table on deck and began to eat and drink.
Before long, a Knight on patrol ashore quickly boarded the ship. "Captain, a vessel is approaching from the sea!"
Rig immediately dropped the meat in his hand and shot to his feet.
His squad was stationed here precisely to prevent enemy sneak attacks.
But for days, the sea had been calm, and it seemed no enemy had taken an interest in their location.
He pulled out his telescope and immediately made out the flag hanging on the ship. A jolt went through him. ’It’s pirates! The Ghost Tide Pirate Gang!’
The shock, however, was followed by elation.
’Enemies are a good thing,’ he thought. ’Enemies mean a chance for glory.’
He was still frustrated about missing the campaign to attack Moonlight Valley.
"Go! All hands, on my order! Assemble and prepare to engage the enemy!"
"Let me see."
Simon walked over and took the telescope from Rig. "It’s definitely the pirate flag Reis described. But why is there only one ship?"
Rig frowned. In his excitement, he hadn’t noticed there was only a single ship.
"Attacking the Wubei Territory with a single ship? They must really look down on us!"
Soon, the vessel was a hundred meters from the port.
It didn’t advance further, however, instead stopping in place.
Onshore, Rig and his men were in formation, ready for battle, but the situation left them in an awkward position.
Since Reis had taken the trained Navy to Rapids Island, they had no ships of their own. If the enemy didn’t make landfall, they had no way to engage them.
For a long time, the pirate ship remained motionless.
Rig said in bewilderment, "Are they just passing by? Not here to attack us?"
But soon after, a fiery light flared on the ship’s deck.
With a low HUM, a serpent of fire twenty to thirty meters long shot out from the pirate ship. Blazing with intense flames and immense force, it hurtled toward the port’s various ironwood structures!
Rig’s eyes flew wide. "It’s a Magic Energy Cannon! They’re specifically targeting the port!"
Only then did he realize their objective.
He leaped into the air, attempting to intercept the Crimson Flame Fire Snake before it arrived, but he was clearly not as fast as Magic.
Just as the serpent of fire was about to destroy the port’s buildings, Simon’s figure appeared before it, shattering it with a single punch.
"Ronin’s prediction was spot on. To think you’d actually come for the port."
With a single step, he flew across the open air, landing before the pirates who were preparing a second shot, now stunned and terrified by what they had just witnessed.
Simon kicked the gunner aside, confiscated the Magic Energy Cannon, then drew the man’s own sword and pressed it against his neck.
"Dock this ship at the pier right now, if you want to live."
The pirates had only planned a hit-and-run, so the most powerful person aboard was the gunner, a Silver Knight. Before Simon, a Silver Moon Knight, they were as helpless as chicks.
And just like that, the crisis at Wubei Port was calmly resolved.
Meanwhile, Rapids Island was anything but calm.
On the vast expanse of the sea, five warships sailed in formation, their target: Rapids Island.
Standing on the bow of the central warship was a tall Knight: Patridge, the Viscount of Crescent Island and a Vassal of the Fleming Clan.
As a Meteor Knight, he paid the mission no mind. In his eyes, conquering Rapids Island would be as easy as a day trip.
’Deploying five warships is a bit of a waste,’ he thought.
"Lord Viscount, the mountain ahead is Rapids Island," the captain said, pointing to the landmass rising from the sea before them.
Patridge leaned on the railing, full of vigor. "Signal the fleet! Prepare for landing and get ready for battle!"
WHOOSH—
Just then, a violent gust of wind swept by. The once-clear sky suddenly darkened, as if the sun had been blotted out by a massive cloud.
Patridge instinctively glanced up at the sky, and that single look plunged him into a state of utter shock.
"By the Seven Gods, what... what in the hell is that thing!"
The massive shadow in the sky was as long as a warship, and its wingspan stretched a full seventy to eighty meters, truly blotting out the sun!
Patridge was a worldly man, but facing the rapidly approaching Carlos, he had to admit he was terrified.
’A passing Magical Beast?’ Patridge prayed inwardly. ’But... rumors say Ronin has a Giant Dragon...’
In the sky, Carlos glided.
Karda sat trembling on its back, using a telescope to observe the five warships below.
"Mr. Dragon, I recognize the man on the bow of the middle ship. That’s Patridge, a Meteor Knight and a Vassal of Screaming Island. He must be the Commander of this Pirate Gang."
As he finished speaking, flames formed a single word before him: "Understood."
This was how Carlos communicated with outsiders.
Carlos suddenly banked in the air, sending currents of wind scattering. If Karda hadn’t been magically bound in place, he would have been thrown off.
"It’s coming!"
Patridge’s eyes bulged. "Just as I feared! It’s coming for us!"
He roared frantically, "All hands, aim the Magic Energy Cannons at that monster in the sky! Fire at will!"
Faced with such a colossal Magical Beast, the entire crew was scared witless, but Patridge’s roar spurred them into subconscious action.
Instantly, a total of ten Magic Energy Cannons from the five warships fired at Carlos like a volley of fireworks, their roar shaking the heavens.
The sight sent a chill down Karda’s spine. Without the Giant Dragon, Rapids Island would have been blasted to smithereens by those Magic Energy Cannons.
In the face of such a bombardment, Carlos snorted white vapor from its nostrils, a clear sign of its fury.
It then opened its cavernous maw, and a majestic torrent of magma-like flame poured down, which Carlos expertly maneuvered to intercept the cannon blasts.
It spun in the air and spat out a five-to-six-meter-long Ice Arrow that came crashing down on the central warship.
Against the Giant Dragon’s maneuverability, Patridge’s ships were nothing more than floating targets. No matter how he tried to steer them, he could not escape the bombardment.
The massive Ice Arrow grew larger and larger in his pupils until it finally slammed onto the deck and exploded. Instantly, the sturdy warship began to splinter and break apart.
Patridge leaped, trying to jump to another ship.
But he only felt a hurricane-force wind rush past before his body was seized. When his vision cleared, he found himself clutched in the Giant Dragon’s massive talons.
If Carlos so wished, a slight squeeze would be enough to make him burst.
It was an utterly one-sided display of power.
Meanwhile, on Rapids Island, Reis and Lusen sailed their warships out of the harbor.
Each of those warships was worth five to six thousand Gold Coins; it would be a terrible waste if they were all burned.
Thus, they planned to deal with the troublesome invaders first, then board the enemy vessels and capture as many as they could.
