Chapter 824 - 511: Intuition, Failed Subjugation
In front of the thick stone door of the main burial chamber, the five people stood in their respective positions, all ready.
Then, the middle-aged woman in white holding a black jar suddenly raised her hand and waved, causing the bald zombie she controlled to leap forward and fiercely crash against the stone door in front of her!
Generally speaking, such an act could be likened to striking a stone with an egg, or an egg colliding with a rock; after all, zombies are made of flesh, and trying to collide with a heavy stone door would certainly not end well.
But the bald zombie controlled by the middle-aged woman, Mr. Zhao, was not ordinary. Although it appeared stiff and unremarkable on the surface, it showed terrifying power and physical strength when suddenly unleashed!
Boom! Boom!
Upon its first leap, the large bald head struck the stone door of the main burial chamber, creating a basin-sized dent, with countless deep cracks radiating from the center.
The second impact directly shattered the cracked, heavy stone door into several pieces, forming a large opening for people to pass through.
For a moment, the violent collision reverberated inside and outside the main burial chamber, like a small earthquake.
But what surprised everyone was the atypical tranquility inside the main burial chamber following such a major commotion.
Everyone could see the cyan jade coffin placed inside, resting steadily on the chamber floor with no sign of movement, let alone a fierce zombie jumping out from inside.
However, upon witnessing this, everyone remained cautious, first deploying the bald zombie to guard the stone doorway firmly, while the others exchanged glances and whispered amongst themselves.
"Mr. Zhang, why isn’t there any movement? Could it be an empty coffin inside?"
The man in a Zhongshan suit holding a golden Eight-sided Han Sword kept his gaze fixed on the burial chamber ahead, asking without turning to the short black-clad man behind him.
"Impossible! Such intense evil aura can only belong to a millennium-old zombie! I will not mistake it!"
Mr. Zhang, the short black-clad man holding glutinous rice in one hand and a black donkey hoof in the other, immediately raised his voice in response, seemingly shocked that the tomb owner had not emerged for a massacre.
"Stop arguing, there’s indeed a formidable zombie in the coffin, but it is still asleep."
The middle-aged woman in white, Mr. Zhao, spoke up from the back, putting an end to the debate.
As a specialist in zombies, her words obviously held credibility, and the topic was swiftly directed to the next matter.
"What should we do next? Proceed with the plan?"
"Yes, stick to the previous plan! I suspect this ancient creature is feigning sleep to lower our guard!"
"Mr. Qiu! If we can avoid fighting, it’s ideal! The opportunity to acquire millennia-old artifacts intact is rare!"
"Exactly, considering the quality of this jade coffin, selling it would start at a minimum of two million dollars!"
"Quiet down! The zombie inside the coffin is merely asleep, not dead! Follow my orders, I’ll open the coffin, and you prepare for combat!"
Following a brief discussion, the group allowed the most esteemed middle-aged woman in white, Mr. Zhao, to take control of the situation. Her cautious strategy was accepted by all.
As the others took strategic battle positions, Mr. Zhao suddenly extended two pale fingers to lightly tap her black jar, releasing two ethereal shadows that flashed into the burial chamber, positioning themselves flanking the bald zombie and forming a triangular encirclement around the central jade coffin.
These were evidently two malevolent ghosts floating in mid-air.
The male ghost had an unusually long neck, with an even longer tongue extending forth, resembling a horrifying hanged ghost.
The female ghost had hollow eyes constantly weeping blood, the foul fluid spreading towards the jade coffin as if blood was the primary means of attack.
Once the two evil spirits took their positions, the bald zombie standing beside the coffin started exerting force, slowly using its slightly stiff yet incredibly strong hands to carefully lift the lid of the jade coffin.
Through this coffin-opening method, it was clear that the woman in white, Mr. Zhao, despite her talk of combat, was not aggressive, manipulating her zombie with slight movements to avoid waking the sleeping millennia-old zombie inside.
Her approach proved successful. Even after more than half of the jade coffin’s lid was opened by the bald zombie, the entity resting within remained still, resembling an ordinary corpse exposed to the outside world’s view.
If someone were to move closer, they could see a male corpse wearing black armor with a peaceful mien lying inside. The dry body showed minimal decay, its facial features distinctly identifiable, preserved remarkably well, even fitting for museum display amongst the finest specimens.
Yet, the overly smooth coffin opening sparked alternative thoughts in Mr. Zhao outside the burial chamber.
Suddenly halting the next steps of her trio of ghost puppets, she ensured they continued surrounding the lying millennia-old zombie, then turned around to address the curious young man in western attire standing behind her:
"Leave this zombie to me, and I can refund half of the commission. As long as I get the zombie, everything on it can be given to you."
Hearing this, the young man in western attire showed slight surprise, but quickly grasped the woman’s professional pursuit, recognizing that the terrifying zombie others avoid might be priceless to her, so he nodded in agreement:
