Chapter 185 Xinyu's Engagement Day
Chapter 185 Xinyu's Engagement Day
"Liu Yixin, are you sure you didn't take the wrong ring box? Don't open it and find a toy frog jumping out," her best friend said half-jokingly while helping Liu Yixin adjust her wedding dress.
Liu Yixin rolled her eyes at her. "Please, I'm not a three-year-old. How could I mess up something like this? As for you, don't go crying your eyes out on stage later and steal my thunder."
"That's hard to say. Someone as sentimental as me would be lucky to hold back my tears if I saw you, this iron tree blooming." Yixin's best friend pretended to wipe away non-existent tears.
The engagement ceremony was held in a picturesque manor. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, dappling the grass like a golden carpet laid out by nature for the occasion. Fu Yu stood on the stage, nervously wringing his hands, his eyes darting back and forth in the direction Liu Yixin had appeared.
"Brother, don't be nervous, this isn't a battlefield." Fu Yu's good friend Li Yang patted him on the shoulder. "But you look more serious than when you're filming a movie."
"How can I not be nervous? This is a major event in my life." Fu Yu took a deep breath. "If I mispronounce my lines later, Yi Xin will definitely laugh at me for the rest of her life."
Just then, cheerful music started playing, and Liu Yixin walked slowly towards them, arm in arm with her father. She wore a pure white wedding dress, her face beaming with happiness, like a princess from a fairy tale. Fu Yu stared at her, his eyes wide, muttering to himself, "Wow, she's so beautiful."
Li Yang chuckled to himself, "Alright, alright, stop acting like you've never seen anything like this before."
Liu Yixin walked up to Fu Yu, and her father placed her hand in Fu Yu's hand, solemnly saying, "Boy, from now on, Yixin is in your hands. If you dare to bully her, I won't let you off the hook."
Fu Yu nodded quickly, "Uncle, don't worry, I will definitely take good care of Yixin."
Next came the ring exchange. Fu Yu opened the ring box, preparing to put the ring on Liu Yixin's finger, when suddenly, a series of barking sounds came from inside. Everyone froze. Liu Yixin stared wide-eyed at Fu Yu, "What are you doing?"
Fu Yu looked bewildered. "I don't know either. I clearly put in a ring."
Just as everyone was wondering what was going on, a little puppy poked its head out of the ring box, a ring in its mouth, wagging its tail. It turned out that Fu Yu's assistant had secretly put the ring in the puppy's mouth to add a surprise to the ceremony.
Liu Yixin was both annoyed and amused. "Your assistant is really good at creating trouble."
Fu Yu smiled awkwardly, took the ring from the puppy's mouth, and put it on Liu Yixin's finger. "Although the process was a bit unexpected, the ring is on now."
After exchanging rings, it was time for family and friends to speak. Liu Yixin's college roommate, Wang Meng, was the first to go on stage. "Yixin and I were best friends for four years in college. Back then, she vowed to find a tall, handsome, and rich boyfriend. I thought she was dreaming, but I never expected that she would actually find one today. Fu Yu, you'd better treat Yixin well, or we best friends will never forgive you."
A burst of laughter erupted from the audience. Fu Yu smiled and nodded, "Definitely, definitely. If I treat Yixin badly, you can all teach me a lesson."
Next, Brother Zhang, a colleague of Fu Yu from the same production crew, took the stage to speak. “I have worked with Fu Yu on several dramas. This guy is known for his dedication on set. But once, we were filming a period drama. Fu Yu was wearing period costume and a wig. When the wind blew, the wig was blown away. The way he chased after the wig made us laugh so hard.”
The audience burst into laughter again, and Liu Yixin covered her mouth, laughing non-stop. "I didn't know you had such a funny side!"
Fu Yu shook his head helplessly, "That's all in the past, Brother Zhang, please don't bring up my past."
After the speeches, it was free time. Everyone chatted and took photos in small groups. Liu Yixin and Fu Yu moved through the crowd, greeting their friends and family. At this moment, Yixin's best friend pulled her aside and said mysteriously, "Yixin, I have a secret to tell you."
"What secret?" Liu Yixin asked curiously.
"I just saw a girl texting Fu Yu on his phone, calling him 'baby,'" Yi Xin's best friend said, feigning seriousness.
Liu Yixin's expression changed instantly. "Really? Don't scare me."
“How could I dare to lie to you? If you don’t believe me, go ask him yourself,” Yixin said.
Liu Yixin stormed up to Fu Yu and demanded, "Fu Yu, you better tell me honestly, who is that girl on your phone who calls you 'baby'?"
Fu Yu looked bewildered. "What do you mean by 'my darling' girl? I don't know anything about that."
"You're still pretending? My best friend saw it all." Liu Yixin put her hands on her hips.
Fu Yu took out his phone, scrolled through the message history, and suddenly burst out laughing, "You mean this? This is my mom, that's what she always calls me."
Liu Yixin was stunned. "Ah? It's Auntie. I thought..."
Yixin's best friend laughed so hard she almost fell over. "Yixin, I was just teasing you. Look how nervous you are."
Liu Yixin then realized what had happened and chased after her best friend, yelling, "You bad guy, you dared to lie to me! I'll teach you a lesson!"
After a while of merriment, everyone began to enjoy the food. The tables were laden with various delicacies, including seafood, steak, and desserts. Liu Yixin and Fu Yu went from table to table toasting everyone, thanking them for coming.
Halfway through the meal, Li Yang suddenly stood up and suggested playing a game. "On such a happy day, let's play a game. Let's play riddles, and whoever loses has to drink a penalty shot."
Everyone responded enthusiastically. Li Yang then posed the first riddle: "What gets fat quickly and loses weight even faster?"
Everyone started thinking. Liu Yixin thought for a while, then her eyes lit up. "I know, it's a balloon."
"You got it right, Yixin is really smart," Li Yang praised.
Next, Liu Yixin posed a riddle: "Winter melon, cucumber, watermelon, and pumpkin can all be eaten, so what kind of melon can't be eaten?"
Fu Yu thought for a long time but still couldn't figure it out, and he scratched his head in frustration. Everyone else looked equally bewildered.
"Haha, can't guess it, can you? You're a fool," Liu Yixin said smugly.
Everyone suddenly realized what was going on and laughed. Fu Yu reluctantly picked up his glass, drank a glass of wine, and said, "A bet's a bet."
The game continued, and everyone had a great time, filling the entire manor with laughter.
Before they knew it, dusk had fallen, and the engagement ceremony was drawing to a close. Liu Yixin and Fu Yu stood on the stage, waving goodbye to everyone. "Thank you all for coming to our engagement ceremony tonight. We hope you all have a wonderful evening."
Friends and family offered their blessings and then left one by one. Liu Yixin and Fu Yu held hands, watching the crowd gradually disappear into the distance, their hearts filled with happiness and emotion.
"I'm so happy today. Although there were a few minor hiccups, everything was perfect," Liu Yixin said softly, leaning on Fu Yu's shoulder.
“Yes, this is the most unforgettable day of my life.” Fu Yu held Liu Yixin’s hand tightly. “From now on, I will make you this happy every day.”
They smiled at each other and embraced tenderly under the moonlight. This engagement ceremony, filled with laughter and surprises, became a beautiful memory in their lives.
(Note: Liu Yixin's family and Fu Yu's family were present.)
