Chapter 44 Doomsday Hot Pot
Chapter 44 Doomsday Hot Pot
Before Qin Yuan and Lin Yun could react, seven cans of chilled beer suddenly appeared on the top shelf of the small food cart in front of Lu Yuan. The cans were steaming with cool white vapor as they came into contact with the hot air.
"Great!" Pei Sihao opened a can of beer, took a big gulp, gave Lu Yuan a thumbs up, and then moved closer to Gu Nanfeng to start putting the ingredients into the hot pot.
Today, Lu Yuan prepared a hot pot with two broths. The spicy broth was made with S Province's spicy hot pot base, since they were all from G Province and could handle spicy food easily. The other side was a local sour soup broth, which could help relieve the spiciness and make the food more palatable. Most importantly, when choosing the hot pot, Pei Sihao kept nagging Lu Yuan, saying he wanted to eat this and that, so Lu Yuan simply found a hot pot with two broths in his space. To be honest, he really didn't expect that his space would even have all the pots and pans.
The five-person team members were no longer surprised by Lu Yuan's spatial ability. Yang Xiao took some ice-cold beer from the food cart that Lu Yuan was pushing and distributed it to everyone. Then, chili sauce and seasonings began to appear on the food cart one after another. Soon, it was full of them. They looked even fresher than the scallions and cilantro that Qin Yuan and his friends ate at the cafeteria hot pot. There was even a delicious herb called houttuynia cordata!
"Come on, make it yourselves!" Zhong Qiang called out to Qin Yuan and Lin Yun, who looked completely bewildered. He took his bowl and went over to make his own dipping sauce, leaving handfuls of sauce without any hesitation.
Finally realizing what was happening, Lin Yun picked up the bowl in front of him and started making the dipping sauce with Yang Xiao and the others. He thought that even if it was a dream, he should eat his fill in his dream.
By the time Lin Yun and the others were seated, the first batch of dishes in the hot pot was almost cooked. The six of them began to feast. This was truly the best meal Lin Yun had eaten in two months. Oh no, he rarely had the chance to have such a satisfying meal when he was in the army.
By the time Qin Yuan finally came to his senses, the other six people at the table had already started eating. He stood up with a bowl, annoyed, to make dipping sauce, while muttering that Lin Yun wasn't a good friend, not even calling him when he was stunned.
The hot pot that Lu Yuan and his friends had was incredibly fresh and delicious, with plenty of meat. The six of them ate their fill in silence before calming down and chatting as they ate.
After a few rounds of drinks, Lin Yun and Qin Yuan learned the general situation of Lu Yuan's space, and Lu Yuan and the others also learned that the two of them did not plan to return to the base for the time being.
"You guys are something else, having such good stuff and not sharing it sooner." Qin Yuan, having drunk and eaten his fill, spoke a bit bluntly without thinking.
"You can't just share this like that." Lin Yun slapped him on the forehead.
“Yes, although Xiao Yuan has this space, we don’t dare to eat too much of what’s inside, because in the current situation, every little bit we eat is a little less.” Gu Nanfeng echoed Lin Yun’s words. He and Pei Sihao were the only two people among everyone who knew that Lu Yuan’s space had a huge amount of supplies, but the three of them tacitly kept this secret.
"Yes, yes, we still need to keep looking for supplies and replenish our stocks." Qin Yuan nodded in agreement. No one knows when the virus will be brought under control. If we can't resume work, there will be no food supply, and we'll really be eating less and less.
“Speaking of food, did you notice that we didn’t see a single live animal at the agricultural market today?” Pei Sihao suddenly said. The market they went to today had a section dedicated to livestock trading. Even if the trading volume was low on weekdays, there should still be some livestock, and the animals were usually kept in cages or tied up. But they didn’t see a single cow or sheep, or even a chicken, in the entire market.
“Indeed, I fed cats and dogs near the school dormitory several times before, but I haven’t seen a single one on the way out.” Yang Xiao put a piece of mutton in his mouth and said, “This is different from the dream. In the dream, the animals are all normal pets, and they are not zombified.”
During their previous casual conversation, Qin Yuan and the others learned about Yang Xiao's so-called precognitive dream and that they were the ones who reported the second viral rain to Beijing. Although the viral rain did fall, the zombie siege and destruction of the security base in the dream did not occur. Therefore, regarding Yang Xiao's so-called precognitive dream, Zhong Qiang and Lu Yuan believed that Yang Xiao had actually been reborn, while Gu Nanfeng and Pei Sihao thought that Yang Xiao simply had a stronger sense of perception and foresaw the second viral rain.
However, none of that matters. After all, starting from this rain, the entire timeline that followed was different from Yang Xiao's dream. So, for him, this dream now meant he had gained five years of experience killing zombies.
"Old Lin and I are going out tomorrow to find a car, preferably one that can be used immediately. We'll also go to a flower and bird market to take a look." Qin Yuan took the last sip of his ice-cold beer, let out a satisfied "ha," and began to talk about his and Lin Yun's plans.
“If we can’t use it directly, it will take a lot of time to modify it. Otherwise, even if we don’t use the vehicle to transport supplies, one vehicle will still be inconvenient for the seven of us,” Lin Yun echoed.
"You don't need to worry about the car." Listening to them chat, Lu Yuan finally looked up from his food. Don't let his small stature fool you; when it comes to appetite, only Yang Xiao can rival him. The two smallest members of the team are actually the ones who eat the most. Pei Sihao had complained about it before, but Yang Xiao just retorted with, "We're still growing."
Upon hearing Lu Yuan's words, Qin Yuan and Lin Yun couldn't help but think of Lu Yuan's spatial dimension. They assumed it contained only water and food, but who would have thought it also contained a car? Glancing again at the Tang swords and crossbows that the group had placed in the living room, they wondered if those were also taken from Lu Yuan's spatial dimension.
“As you expected.” Pei Sihao noticed the two men’s gazes, took a bite of the mutton that Gu Nanfeng had just picked up for him, and then took a satisfied sip of beer.
"I think we should rest well today, and think about other things tomorrow." Lu Yuan, who was also enjoying Gu Nanfeng's feeding, couldn't stop eating. They hadn't been able to eat hot pot for more than 20 days at the base, so they were going to eat their fill today.
"Okay, after we finish the hot pot, we'll modify the water heater pipes later," Gu Nanfeng continued serving food to Lu Yuan and Pei Sihao beside him. "Take a hot shower tonight and get some rest."
Seeing that they weren't in a hurry and even mentioned changing the water pipes for showering, and having gained a better understanding of the space on Lu Yuan's body, Qin Yuan and Lin Yun decided not to worry about themselves anymore and happily started the second round of their crazy show.
The seven of them ate hot pot for almost three hours, not finishing until after 9 p.m. Then Lu Yuan and Yang Xiao cleared the table, while Qin Yuan and Lin Yun, as Gu Nanfeng had arranged, helped them with the remaining modified water pipes, draining the water from the water heater and connecting it to the water storage tank that Lu Yuan had taken out of his space.
There were four bathrooms, and it was almost ten o'clock by the time they finished. The group lined up to shower. Qin Yuan and Lin Yun felt embarrassed to be at the front, so they skipped the last two. By the time they finished washing up, it was almost eleven o'clock. They returned to their bedroom, lay on the bed, and remarked that they never expected their decision to leave the base would lead to this unexpected turn of events.
