Chapter 185 The Fall of the Nebula
Chapter 185 The Fall of the Nebula
Alice looked around. Apart from the boundless space separated by glass, the room was illuminated by a faint glow. Alice looked at the source of the light—it was all data and parameters from distant stars displayed on the holographic screen.
Alice then realized that the two sides of the room presented completely different scenes: on one side was the boundless space, and on the other side were piles of gold and treasures.
Even the most dazzling treasures cannot compare to the Milky Way. From this angle, the stars twinkle, while the aquamarine planet on one side resembles a blue scarf woven from the finest silk.
Alice walked to the very center of the room, where a platform slightly raised above the ground stood, and a blue seat was right in front of her.
On a whim, Alice sat down. Dust from who-knows-where blurred her vision, and Alice blinked.
"Captain! Enemy attack!"
When she opened her eyes again, she saw a completely different scene: Alice was surrounded by all sorts of humans in dark blue uniforms walking back and forth.
"UNS-Hermes battleship has arrived in this airspace!"
"UNS-Yamajin sunk! UNS-Mirai Dream sunk!"
"Captain...the enemy is too numerous...fifty percent of our fleet in this star system has already been sunk..."
A human officer saluted Alice, who looked around in bewilderment.
Ten millennia have passed since humanity first set foot on the last frontier. Within these hundred centuries, the Golden Age was born, representing the most brilliant and progressive period of Earth's civilization. Since the birth of the Hyperspace Drive, the frontiers of civilization have expanded to most of the Milky Way.
A clear, mechanical female voice pierced through the space and echoed in Alice's mind. Alice looked around, but apart from the officers, she could not see any possible source of the voice.
"UNS-Amelansey! This is Task Force 2. Our fleet has suffered more than half its losses and has nowhere to retreat. We are now determined to fight to the death with the enemy!"
At the edge of sight, in the universe beyond the reach of the naked eye, sunlight as bright as fireworks was blooming. Alice realized that each of these dazzling fireworks represented a sunken warship.
Alice looked up and saw the ship's name displayed in six languages at the top of the room—UNS-Amelansey, named after the planet Amelansey, and also a dreadnought.
But all glory fades, just as it does now. In the first hundred years of the eleventh millennium of human history, the two hundred and twenty-one alien civilizations that had been encountered during the Golden Age, scattered across the vast expanse of the Milky Way, suddenly launched a surprise attack on humanity.
"Captain... our evacuation operation on the planet is not over yet... there are still 300 million people who have not been evacuated, but Task Force Two has been completely sunk. We have no time."
The ship's vice-captain surrounded Alice, and she then noticed that the clothes she was wearing had changed to the same uniform used by the Earth Alliance. Alice was holding the monitor in front of her with one hand, and the panel was no longer covered in dust, but was as clean as new.
Several star sectors of the United Nations government on Earth have fallen under a massive, relentless attack. Every day, they receive distress signals from hostile alien races massacring local inhabitants. These aliens are not only physically different from humans, but also in their language and culture.
The UNS-Amelansey is humanity's greatest war machine; no other warship in the entire galaxy can compare to it.
Alice sighed, looking at the warships rolling in from afar, warships capable of performing emergency hyperspace jumps in a short time.
Have the people who were evacuated left?
"Report: The transport fleet is evacuating. The remaining population is expected to take twenty-four natural hours... but the enemy's vanguard fleet is still eighteen thousand light-seconds away from us."
"So, our warship only carried the crew?"
"It also includes two Marine Corps brigades..."
"Too......."
Alice looked into the distance.
The UNS-Imelansey still has ample time to escape the Imelansey sector, which is not a major transportation route.
Alice took a deep breath; she had two choices.
"Two choices?"
Do we have superiors? Or do we have any orders?
"That's all, Captain. This sector has lost contact with the outside world due to the hyperspace storm... The entire galaxy is now shrouded in this mysterious space phenomenon, and long-distance hyperspace communication has completely failed. The entire ship is now under your command."
"it is good......."
"Get the Marines out of here, and put the entire ship on high alert!"
Alice stood up and stroked the Earth Alliance emblem on the captain's console. This emblem represented the birthplace of humanity—Earth.
Humans have never been a gentle group; they are fanatics of violence, cunning, and struggle. Alice smiled and turned the key on the control panel—with each decision she made, new insights would explode in her mind.
Amelansi IV, or commonly known as Amelansi Planet, is a habitable star system under the control of the United Nations. Its most unique feature is that Amelansi IV was not originally a habitable planet.
In its public relations efforts, the United Nations of Earth established the Planetary Terraforming Agency to address the scarcity of habitable planets in its galaxy. Amelanxis is described as humanity's first attempt to terraform an uninhabitable rocky planet, and the plan is to reshape it to resemble their most familiar home—Earth.
However, Amelanxis actually serves another purpose. For the United Nations Science Programme, this planet is not only a site for humanity's planetary terraforming program, but also a site for its civilization evolution experiments.
The ethereal, mechanical female voice continued to echo in Alice's mind, each sentence explaining to her the origin of this world and the origin of those so-called ruins.
"Captain... The entire ship is now in combat readiness. The long-range radar has been redirected, the enemy fleet's data link has been cracked, and more than 300 warships have been detected, including 110 destroyers, 100 cruisers, and 75 battleships."
Can we defeat them?
"This is the total size of the enemy fleet that invaded our star system..."
"Then let's do our best, these space aliens!"
