Chapter 162 Suicidal Tendencies
Chapter 162 Suicidal Tendencies
The ward was deathly silent.
The two sisters, Zheng Yumeng and Zheng Yulu, looked at each other, their faces showing not only anger but also a sense of powerlessness.
They wanted to go over and comfort Tang Wei, who was hiding under the covers like a quail fleeing danger, but when they opened their mouths, they found that any words seemed so pale in the face of the vicious curses she had just hurled.
That was her adoptive mother!
Tang Wei has lived with them since she was a child. How is the debt of gratitude for their upbringing any different from that of her biological mother?
How could you say something like "ungrateful wretch" or "a dog"?
Zheng Yulu's eyes reddened with anger. Clenching her small fists, she walked to Ning Xiuyang's side and whispered, "Brother, this family is too much! They're inhuman! Sister Weiwei is so pitiful."
Zheng Yumeng also came over, glanced worriedly at the figure that was slightly moving under the covers, and sighed: "Yes, brother, what do we do now? Weiwei... she must be heartbroken."
Ning Xiuyang's eyes were calm, yet carried an undeniable chill.
He gently patted Zheng Yulu's shoulder, then said to the two sisters, "Go and get something to eat first, and while you're at it, please pack me a light bowl of porridge."
He glanced at Shen Youyou again; she was also staring blankly at the hospital bed, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
"Youyou, you should go with them. I'll stay here." Ning Xiuyang's voice was gentle.
Shen Youyou opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something, her eyes containing a subtle hint of jealousy, but seeing Ning Xiuyang's calm gaze, she finally nodded.
She knew that at this moment, what Tang Wei needed most was Ning Xiuyang.
This man always seems to have a magical ability to turn the impossible into the possible.
"Well... Brother, we'll head out now. We'll leave Sister Weiwei in your care." Zheng Yumeng pulled her still somewhat resentful sister along and then winked at Shen Youyou.
The three girls tiptoed out of the ward, leaving Ning Xiuyang and the girl curled up in the blankets, as if abandoned by the whole world.
The door was gently closed.
Ning Xiuyang did not step forward immediately, but stood quietly in place.
He could hear a faint, suppressed sob coming from under the covers, a sound like a wounded kitten whimpering in despair, scratching at his heart.
He could imagine how shattered the illusion of "family affection" that she had carefully maintained for more than a decade had been in just that moment.
The phrase "She's just a dog in our house" is enough to destroy all of a girl's strength and dignity.
Ning Xiuyang sighed inwardly.
He knew that Tang Wei was experiencing a terrible tsunami in her heart at that moment.
This girl, who has been strong for so long, may have seen her world crumble.
He even saw on the system panel that Tang Wei's mental state was rapidly deteriorating, with several bright red entries jumping around: [Extreme sadness], [Despair], [Self-denial], [Lack of self-worth]... and even a gray entry was faintly appearing—[Suicidal tendencies].
Ning Xiuyang's gaze suddenly sharpened.
Can't wait any longer.
He strode to the bedside, but instead of lifting the blanket, he slowly sat down and began to speak in a calm, almost soothing tone.
"Vivi."
The sobbing from under the covers abruptly stopped.
I know you're very sad right now.
Ning Xiuyang's voice wasn't loud, but it seemed to have a peculiar penetrating power, clearly drilling into Tang Wei's ears.
"Being betrayed by the person closest to you, being treated like an object that can be discarded at will, must hurt a lot, right?"
The figure under the covers trembled even more violently.
"You feel like the world is bleak, and that life has no meaning, right?"
Every word Ning Xiuyang uttered precisely pierced the darkest corner of her heart.
Tang Wei suddenly threw off the covers and sat up.
Her small face was deathly pale, her eyes swollen like two walnuts, and her bloodshot eyes were filled with endless emptiness and despair.
Tears streamed down her face silently. She bit her lip hard, trying not to cry out. Her stubborn yet vulnerable appearance was heartbreaking.
She looked at Ning Xiuyang with a hint of confusion in her eyes, as if asking, "How did he know?"
Ning Xiuyang did not answer her question, but simply reached out and gently wiped away the tears on her cheeks with his fingertips.
His movements were light and gentle, carrying an irresistible warmth.
"If you want to cry, just cry," he said softly. "You don't need to be strong in front of me."
"Wow!"
This statement was like opening a floodgate.
Tang Wei could no longer hold back. The grievances, pain, resentment, and despair that had been building up for more than a decade all burst forth in tears, and she wailed loudly.
She cried her heart out, sobbing uncontrollably, as if she wanted to release all the sorrow in her life in that one moment.
Ning Xiuyang didn't say anything more, but just sat quietly beside her, letting her cry. Every now and then, he would reach out and clumsily but gently pat her back, offering silent comfort.
He knew she needed this complete release.
She cried for an unknown amount of time, until Tang Wei's voice became hoarse and her body swayed precariously from exhaustion.
Ning Xiuyang gently pulled her into his arms and let her lean on his shoulder.
"Are you done crying?" he asked in a low voice.
Tang Wei sobbed, nodded, and her voice was so weak it was like a mosquito's hum: "Mmm..."
"Once you've finished crying, it means it's over."
Ning Xiuyang's voice carried a comforting power as he reassured everyone, "From today onwards, the Li family has nothing to do with you anymore."
Tang Wei's body stiffened.
"They may not acknowledge you, but I will."
Ning Xiuyang straightened her shoulders and made her look into his eyes, his gaze more serious and solemn than ever before.
"They don't want you, but I do."
"Tang Wei, did you hear me clearly?"
"From the first time you called me 'brother,' you have been my sister, Ning Xiuyang's sister. In this world, anyone can bully you, but I will always protect you and send those who bully you to hell."
Tang Wei stared blankly at him, her empty eyes seeming to slowly gather something back together.
It is light.
Is hope.
Her lips trembled, and tears streamed down her face again, but this time, they were not from sadness.
"elder brother……"
She spoke in a hoarse voice, her tone heavy with nasal resonance and an overwhelming sense of dependence.
"Yes, I'm here."
"I..." She took a deep breath, as if using all her strength, and tightly gripped Ning Xiuyang's sleeve, as if she had grasped the last straw.
"Brother, from now on, you're all I have."
Her words were like a solemn vow.
From today onward, sever ties with the past and abandon what has been.
Previously, Li Mingfeng and her adoptive parents were her entire world, a world she could not question.
But from now on, they are all completely dead in her heart.
Her whole world consisted only of the man in front of her, the man who truly loved her like a younger sister!
